About Chandragiri Day Hiking
The Chandragiri Day Hike takes you to one of the many beautiful hills that surround the Kathmandu Valley located on the southwest side. It is around 20 km from the center of the Kathmandu Valley.
The top of the hill is at an elevation of 2551 M providing a panoramic view of the mighty Himalayan ranges like Everest, Gaurishankar, Langtang, Ganesh, Manaslu, and the Annapurnas. This place has great religious and historical importance. It was from this hill where the great late King Prithvi Narayan Shah with his other officials saw the Kathmandu Valley and decided it conquer it during his unification campaign of Nepal. It is believed that Bhaleshwor Mahadev( A Hindu deity) was the one who granted the king his wishes.
During the Chandragiri Day Hiking, we will start hiking from the base of the cable car station and return from the same route. The trail is then uphill through the beautiful and quiet forest with beautiful views of the Himalayas and Kathmandu Valley. Wild animals like deer are often spotted along the way. From the top, the stunning views of the Himalayas can be seen with some of the world's highest peaks like Mt.Everest(8848 M), Mt. Manaslu(8163 M), and Annapurna I(8091 M). The temple of Bhaleshwor Mahadev is also located at the top of the hill which is a religious site for the Hindus.
The Chandragiri Day Hike can be completed in around 6 hours. But if you would like, we can hike up to the top then come back down by cable car.
