About Ganja La Trek
The Ganja La Trek lies in the culturally and naturally rich Langtang region, northeast of Kathmandu Valley. This trek is quite more difficult than the classic regular trek of the Langtang Valley and is done by a few tourists as it was introduced relatively late.
The Ganja La Trek begins with the 7-9 hours scenic drive to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu. The trek follows the same route as the classic Langtang Valley Trek till Kyangin Gompa. The trek passes through the dense Rhododendron, Bamboo, and Pine forest, beautiful villages, chortens, monasteries, mani walls, etc with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. From there, the route advance toward the Helambu region via the traverse of Ganja La (5130 M) while trekking through the less explored parts of the Langtang region. The top of the Ganja-La (5130 M) offers panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges from the Annapurna range in the far west to Langtang Lirung (7227 M), Shisha Pangma (8013M) in the north of Tibet, and on towards the east Langpogang (6733 M) or Jugal Himal (6535 M).
Similarly, views to the south include Naya Khang (5846 M). For 3 nights between Kyanjin Gompa and Tarkegyang, tented accommodation is needed as there are no settlements. Then after reaching Tarkegyang, the Helambu Trail begins. And trekking through the beautiful villages of the Hyolmo people, the trek concludes finally at Melamchi.
